About
The Global Flood Database is the first comprehensive satellite-based resource that combines over 15 years of flood data to aid in global flood risk management and mitigation. Developed through a collaboration between Floodbase and the DFO Flood Observatory with funding from Google Earth Outreach, it maps floods in over 169 countries and provides insights into the impact of climate change on flooding. The database allows researchers, humanitarian workers, and insurance providers to access over 900 mapped flood events, total affected areas, and population exposure analyses. The tool uses NASA's MODIS satellite data to generate flood extent maps, offering downloads in GeoTIFF format, and allows users to explore data on historic flooding events.
